C1 The interview

Oggi Ben lavora per la sezione di letteratura. Un famoso scrittore è in città per parlare del suo nuovo romanzo.

Ben is working for the literature section today. A famous writer is in town to talk about his new novel.

Laura è gelosa in quanto è una sua grande fan. È il suo sogno incontrarlo faccia a faccia.

Laura is jealous since she is a big fan of him. It is her dream to meet him face to face.

Oh Ben, lui è il mio autore preferito in assoluto. 

“Oh Ben, he's my absolute favourite author.”

So che hai una cotta per lui. Beh, non posso biasimarti. Lui è molto affascinante. "

“I know you fancy him. Well, I can't blame you. He's very handsome.”

Laura è un po' imbarazzata. Il suo desiderio è incontrarlo in privato, ma sa che non è realistico.

Laura is a bit embarrassed. Her wish is to meet him in private but she knows that that is unrealistic.

Ammetto che è piuttosto attraente, ma è stato il suo stile di scrittura a attirare la mia attenzione. È una vera ispirazione per me. In particolare mi piacciono i suoi personaggi. Ad esempio, il detective del suo romanzo precedente: la sua descrizione di lui era molto autentica. Questo agente è diventato una persona molto familiare ai suoi lettori. 

“I admit that he's fairly attractive, but it's his writing style that attracted my attention. He's a real inspiration for me. I like his characters in particular. For example, the detective from his previous novel: his description of him was very authentic. The readers became very familiar with that agent.”

Onestamente, ho trovato quel libro piuttosto noioso. Era troppo complicato e di conseguenza difficile da leggere. Sei la benvenuta per fare l'intervista. Ecco il questionario che ho preparato per essa.

“Honestly, I found that book rather boring. It was too complicated and therefore hard to read. You're welcome to do the interview. Here's the questionnaire I've prepared for it.”

Laura quasi scoppia a piangere per la gioia. Grazie a Ben ora incontrerà il suo idolo.

Laura almost bursts into tears of joy. Thanks to Ben she is now going to meet her idol.

Stai scherzando, Ben. Il mio sogno diventerebbe realtà. Sono una sua fan così devota.

“You’re joking, Ben. My dream would come true. I'm such a devoted fan of him.”

Per me è fastidioso dover scrivere di lui. Voglio invece concentrarmi sulla spedizione sulla fauna selvatica che farò tra un mese.

“For me, it's annoying that I have to write about him. I want to concentrate on the wildlife expedition I'm doing in a month’s time instead.”

Grazie, Ben. La mia intervista si baserà sulla sua biografia. 

“Thank you, Ben. My interview will be based on his biography.”

Dovresti scrivere un altro paio di punti. Ora sta lavorando ad un libro sulla guerra. Parla di soldati  ordinari e ufficiali che hanno combattuto coraggiosamente e si sono ritrovati sulla sedia a rotelle. Il titolo è L"Ombra della morte". "

“You should write down a couple of other points. He's working on a book about the war. It's about ordinary soldiers and officers who fought bravely and found themselves in a wheelchair. The title is ‘Shadow of Death’.”

Quel periodo è stato un incubo! Anche mio nonno è rimasto ferito e da allora ha un proiettile nella gamba. Un'intera generazione ha dovuto ricostruire le proprie vite. I miei nonni sembrano felici oggi, ma mio nonno era depresso al suo ritorno. Gli ci è voluto un bel po' di tempo per riprendersi. 

“That period was a nightmare! My grandfather was injured too and has had a bullet in his leg ever since. An entire generation had to rebuild their lives. My grandparents seem happy today, but my grandpa was depressed when he returned. It took him quite a while to recover.”

“Sì, hanno sofferto molto. Hanno difeso la società e i loro valori, ma sono stati derubati della loro gioventù."

“Yes, they have suffered a lot. They defended society and their values but they had their youth stolen.”

È un peccato che ci sia silenzio a questo proposito. Lo scrittore ha preso la decisione deliberata di non scrivere una delle sue storie, che sono generalmente abbastanza superficiali e divertenti. 

“It's a shame that there's so much silence about this. The writer made a deliberate decision to not write one of his stories which are, in general, quite shallow and entertaining.”

Penso che sia stata un'eccezione. Ora sta lavorando di nuovo a una storia completamente diversa. Scrive dei nostri antenati che erano contrari al monumento di fronte alla residenza reale.

“I think this was a one-off. He's now working on a totally different story again. He's writing about our ancestors who were opposed to the monument in front of the royal residence.”

È davvero qualcosa di molto diverso. Pensi che confermerà che ci sta lavorando?

“That is indeed something very different. Do you think he'll confirm that he's working on that?”

Suppongo che lo farà, ma sarà difficile trattare seriamente entrambi gli argomenti allo stesso tempo.

“I suppose he will, but it'll be difficult to deal with both topics seriously at the same time.”

Potrei iniziare con domande sul romanzo di guerra, lasciarlo commentare su di esso e passare all'altro argomento subito prima della fine dell'intervista. Quindi può decidere cosa dire.

“I could start with questions about the war novel, let him comment on it, and only turn to the other topic just before the end of the interview. Then he can decide what he says.”

Suppongo che tu possa farlo, ma idealmente, poni enfasi sul romanzo di guerra. Non penso che tu possa collegare i due nell'articolo in alcun modo"

“I guess you could, but ideally you'll place the emphasis on the war novel. I don't think you can link the two in one article anyhow.”

È vero, e posso inoltre cogliere l'occasione per offrirgli un secondo appuntamento al lancio  della campagna. 

“That's true, and furthermore I may well use the opportunity to offer him a second meeting at the launch of the book campaign.”

Oh Laura! Solo perché vuoi vederlo di nuovo!

“Oh Laura! Just because you want to meet him again!”
