C5 At Home

Anna está passando o fim de semana na casa dos pais. Ela passou praticamente toda a sua infância lá. Seus pais acabaram de ganhar um gatinho que agora está olhando com ciúme para esta visitante desconhecida. Quando Anna acaricia seu pelo, o gatinho começa a ronronar em um ritmo constante.

Anna is spending the weekend at her parents’ house. She spent practically her whole childhood there. Her parents just got a little kitten who is now jealously looking at this unfamiliar visitor. When Anna strokes its fur, the kitten starts purring in a steady rhythm.  

Anna se senta junto à lareira com sua mãe depois de uma caminhada no ar gelado. Elas foram até a fonte no centro da aldeia.

Anna sits at the fireplace with her mum after a walk in the freezing air outside. They went to the fountain in the village centre.

“Vou ligar o aquecedor do seu antigo quarto. O aquecimento central não é suficiente nestas condições extremamente frias. ”

“I’ll switch on the heater in your old bedroom. The central heating won't be enough in these extremely cold conditions.”

“Sim, está de fato surpreendentemente frio considerando o sol lá fora. Eu gostaria de poder pegar minha prancha de snowboard amanhã e dirigir para as montanhas, mas ainda estou com dor de garganta. ”

“Yes, it's really surprisingly cold given the sunshine outside. I wish that I could take my snowboard tomorrow and drive into the mountains, but I'm still suffering from a sore throat.”

“Eu pensei que você iria se trancar em seu quarto e estudar aqui? Parece que você não está muito preocupada com o exame. ”

“I thought you'd lock yourself in your room and study? It sounds like you're not very worried about the exam.”

“O ensino na uni é muito bom e depois sempre reviso imediatamente com a Sophia. Portanto, posso fazer uma pausa aqui.”

“The teaching at uni is very good and after classes I always revise right away with Sophia. So I can take a bit of a break here."

“Você está feliz com o apoio que está recebendo? Achei surpreendente que você tenha escolhido esta escola. Suas palestras parecem um pouco antiquadas e falta espaço ”.

“Are you happy with the support you're getting? I found it surprising that you chose this school. Their lectures seem a bit old-fashioned and it lacks space.”

“No entanto, raramente marcamos reuniões no campus, mas não me arrependo de minha decisão de estudar lá. Fiz muitas novas amizades e a comunidade estudantil está muito engajada. Muitos estrangeiros estudam lá com bolsas de seus governos e sou grata por poder aprender mais sobre suas vidas.

“We hardly ever arrange meetings on campus, but I don't regret my decision to study there. I've built many new friendships and the student community is very engaged. Many foreigners are studying there on grants from their governments and I'm grateful to be able to learn more about their lives.

Esses caras se importam muito com política e falam sobre as greves que parecem estar acontecendo constantemente em seus países de origem. O campus é mais modesto do que os outros, mas acho que o ambiente dinâmico compensa isso. Posso andar para qualquer lugar porque o campus está situado no centro. Eu não preciso de um carro”

"These guys are people who care a lot about politics and talk about the strikes that seem to be constantly happening in their home countries. The campus is more modest than others but I think the dynamic environment makes up for that. I can walk everywhere because the campus is situated in the centre. I don't need a vehicle.”

“Mas você tem que admitir que certas partes do bairro são feias.”

“But you have to admit that certain parts of the neighbourhood are ugly.”

“Você escolheu sua universidade por sua classificação ou ambiente naquela época? Considerei a sua, mas a principal desvantagem foi o seu isolamento, não existem bares ou restaurantes de maneira alguma.”

“Did you choose your university for its rank or its setting back then? I thought about yours, but the main drawback was its isolation, there are no bars or restaurants at all.”

“Eu não era nem sociável nem fácil de lidar naquela época. Eu queria ser advogada e os alunos masculinos eram todos muito competitivos ”.

“I was neither sociable nor easygoing back then. I wanted to be a lawyer and the male students were all very competitive.”

“Muitos dos meus amigos também estudam Direito. Seus professores são terrivelmente rigorosos. ”

“Many of my friends are studying law too. Their professors are terribly strict.”

“Sim, nossos instrutores nos enterravam sob uma pilha de trabalho também."

“Yes, our instructors buried us under a pile of work too.”

“Quando comparo Economia com isso, é muito menos estressante. Quando presto atenção nas aulas e reviso um pouco, consigo lidar muito bem com os exames. Alguns tópicos são essenciais, mas podemos usar os exames de ex-alunos e estou sempre devidamente preparada. ”

“When I compare economics to that, it's much less stressful. When I pay attention in class and revise a bit I can deal with the exams pretty well. Some topics are essential, but we can use the exams of former students and I'm always adequately prepared.”

“Parece que você realmente gosta e que está fazendo muitos amigos por lá. Também tenho muitos momentos inesquecíveis da minha vida de estudante, alguns na verdade bastante constrangedores. Tínhamos um estudante gay muito inteligente que tinha um segredo. Ele conhecia uma pessoa na farmácia e pegava receitas ilegais com ela. Quando descobri que ele tinha relações sexuais com o farmacêutico, foi um choque para mim. Ele então teve uma discussão com seu amante. Eles começaram a brigar e ele o assassinou. Ele precisava se livrar do corpo e me pediu para ajudá-lo a escondê-lo. ”

“It seems like you really enjoy it and that you're making many friends there. I also have many unforgettable moments from my student life, some of them actually quite embarrassing. We had a very intelligent gay student who had a secret. He knew somebody from the pharmacy and got illegal prescriptions from him. When I found out that he had sex with the pharmacist it was a shock for me. Then he had an argument with his lover. They started to fight and he murdered him. He needed to get rid of the body and asked me to help him hide it.”

“Oh meu Deus! O que você fez?

“Oh my god! What did you do?”

“Eu chamei a polícia. Eu era obrigada a fazer isso. ”

“I called the police. I felt bound to do that.”
