C9 The theatre

Anna convenceu Ben a ir à ópera com ela. Ele faz isso para agradar a Anna.

Anna has persuaded Ben to go to the opera with her. He does it to please Anna.

“Eu não vou ao balé ou ao teatro desde o ensino médio, mas vou tolerar isso hoje à noite por você.”

“I haven't been to the ballet or theatre since secondary school, but I'll put up with this for you tonight.”

“Sei que você prefere fazer outra coisa, mas tenho certeza de que valerá a pena.”

“I know you would rather do something else, but I'm sure this'll be worth it.”

“Acho isso estressante e muitas vezes decepcionante. Mesmo que eu goste da atuação, estou sobrecarregado e incapaz de ter a mente aberta o suficiente para isso. A música só me deixa sonolento depois de um longo dia. Podemos ir a um musical em vez disso. É menos monótono e as letras são compreensíveis. Também podemos comprar os álbuns e ouvir música em casa. Talvez a trilha sonora da nova série que você assiste no canal três? ”

“I find it stressful and often disappointing. Even if I like the performance, I'm overworked and incapable of being open-minded enough for this. The music just makes me sleepy after a long day. We can go to a musical instead. That's less monotonous and the lyrics are understandable. We can also buy the albums and listen to music at home. Maybe the soundtrack of the new series you watch on channel three?”

“I'll ask Laura to let you cover the cultural section for a month.”

“Como você ousa! Isso seria um verdadeiro castigo para mim. Eu sou um cara simples. Não me sinto confortável nesses eventos. Uma ou duas vezes por ano, vou vestir um terno e uma gravata e fazer isso por você. No entanto, não vou fazer isso semanalmente, ok? ”

“How dare you! That would be a real punishment for me. I'm a simple guy. I'm not comfortable at these events. Once or twice a year, I’ll dress in a suit and tie and do it for you. However, I'm not going to do that on a weekly basis, ok?”

“We could watch your favourite soap opera at home. Nobody would care about whether our haircut is unfashionable or not. We could just undress and lie on the sofa in our underwear.”

“You’re joking! Don’t be such a narrow-minded idiot. You know I'm very fond of going to the theatre and you could come with me a couple of times over the course of the year...”

“Sim, eu sei o quanto você gosta disso. Tenho muito respeito pelos artistas. Eu ficaria muito constrangido e estressado se fosse o centro das atenções assim. ”

“Yes, I know how much you're into this. I do have a lot of respect for the performers. I'd be very self-conscious and stressed if I were the centre of attention like that.”

Graças ao cancelamento, eles conseguiram lugares ao lado do palco claramente iluminado. Eles estão cercados principalmente por convidados idosos e muito falantes.

Thanks to a cancellation, they got seats right next to the brightly lit stage. Now, they are surrounded by mostly elderly and very chatty guests.

“Look at the brochure. Is there going to be an interval between the 2 acts?”

“Sem dúvida! Até onde eu sei, sempre há uma pausa. Se formos bem organizados e chegarmos cedo, podemos conseguir algumas bebidas grátis do barman. Eu o conheço bem. Na minha opinião, essa é a única vantagem desta noite.”

“Without a doubt! To the best of my knowledge, there's always a break. If we're well-organised and get there early, we may get some free drinks from the barman. I know him well. As far as I'm concerned, that's the only perk tonight.”

Ben se levanta de seu assento e desce a escada rapidamente.

Ben rises from his seat and descends the staircase quickly.

Anna fala com alguns dos ilustres convidados antes de se juntar a Ben no salão onde bebidas estão sendo servidas. Ele dá a ela uma taça de vinho.

Anna speaks to some of the distinguished guests before joining Ben in the salon in which drinks are served. He gives her a glass of wine.

“Prefiro relaxamento em casa. Estou lhe fazendo este favor hoje, mas sempre que estou no clima de sair e aproveitar a vida noturna, você se junta a mim também. ”

“I prefer relaxation at home. I'm doing you this favour today, but whenever I'm in the mood to go out and enjoy the nightlife you'll join me as well.”

“Sim, Ben, farei isso."

“Yes, Ben, I will do that.”
