The Invitation

Anna’s Großeltern sind seit fünfzig Jahren verheiratet und feiern ihren Jahrestag. Die ganze Familie ist eingeladen. Anna und Ben nehmen die U-Bahn. Anna hat ein Gemälde als Geschenk für sie gekauft. Anna’s Großmutter öffnet die Tür.

Anna's grandparents have been married for fifty years and celebrate their anniversary. The whole family is invited. Anna and Ben take the underground. Anna has bought a painting as a present for them. Anna’s grandmother answers the door.

„Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Oma! Wo ist denn Opa?“

“Congratulations, Grandma! Happy anniversary! Where is grandpa?”

„Er ist drinnen. Deine Tante und dein Onkel sind schon hier.“

“He is inside. Your aunt and uncle are already here.”

Sie gehen alle in die Küche.

They all go into the kitchen.

„Oh, meine Enkelin und mein zukünftiger Enkel, ihr seid hier! Versprecht mir, dass ihr uns öfter besucht. Ihr seid letztes Jahr nur zweimal gekommen. Wir wollen unsere Enkelkinder öfter sehen.“

“Oh, my granddaughter and my future grandson, you are here! Promise me you come see us more often. You only came twice last year. We want to see our grandchildren more.”

„Ja, Opa, das verspreche ich. Ich habe jetzt mehr Freizeit. Ich habe letzte Woche meine Prüfungen bestanden. Übrigens, bist du immer noch krank? Du musst auf dich aufpassen. Deine Gesundheit ist wichtig.“

“Yes, grandpa, I promise. I have more spare time now. I passed my exams last week. By the way, are you still ill? You have to take care of yourself. Your health is important.”

„Nein, mir geht es gut, es war nur mein Magen. Es war nicht gefährlich.“

“I am well, it was just my stomach. It was not dangerous.”

Anna gibt ihm einen Kuss auf die Stirn.

Anna gives him a kiss on the forehead.

„Ich möchte nur, dass du vorsichtig bist. Dein Rücken- problem vom letzten Jahr kann wieder schlimmer sein. Ich weiß, wie gerne du in der Bibliothek zwischen Bücherregalen sitzt, aber du brauchst auch ein bisschen Aktivität.“

“I just want you to be careful. Your back problem from last year can get worse again. I know how much you like to sit in the library between bookshelves, but you also need a little bit of activity.”

„Ich laufe jeden Tag auf dem Weg in der Nähe unseres Hauses - ganz bis zum Kreisverkehr. Aber ich bin schon alt und werde taub und blind. Nichts kann das stoppen.”

“I walk on the path near our house every day - all the way to the roundabout. But I am already old and getting deaf and blind. Nothing can stop it.”

„Sag das nicht! Du bin so ein fantastischer Opa und du bist fast nie krank. Sicherlich wirst du schon bald über 90 sein.“

“Don’t say that! You are such a fantastic grandpa and you are hardly ever sick. For sure you will be over 90 soon.”

Anna”s Großmutter kommt in die Küche und gibt Anna bunte Pullover und Socken.

Anna’s grandmother comes into the kitchen and gives Anna colourful pullovers and socks.

„Ich habe sehr dünne Wolle benutzt damit sie nicht zu schwer sind.“

“I used very thin wool so that they are not too heavy.”

„Großmutter! Du sollst mir doch nicht immer Geschenke machen! Vielen Dank!“

“Grandma! You shouldn’t always give me gifts! Thank you!”
