C1 The interview

Ben trabalha hoje para a seção de literatura. Um escritor famoso está na cidade para falar sobre seu novo romance.

Ben is working for the literature section today. A famous writer is in town to talk about his new novel.

Laura está com ciúmes, pois é uma grande fã dele. Seu sonho é conhecê-lo pessoalmente.

Laura is jealous since she is a big fan of him. It is her dream to meet him face to face.

“Oh, Ben, ele é meu autor favorito absoluto.” 

“Oh Ben, he's my absolute favourite author.”

“Eu sei que você o ama. Bem, não posso te culpar. Ele é muito bonito. "

“I know you fancy him. Well, I can't blame you. He's very handsome.”

Laura está um pouco envergonhada. O desejo dela é encontrá-lo privadamente, mas ela sabe que não é realista.

Laura is a bit embarrassed. Her wish is to meet him in private but she knows that that is unrealistic.

“Admito que ele é bastante atraente, mas foi seu estilo de escrita que chamou minha atenção. Ele é uma verdadeira inspiração para mim. Eu gosto dos personagens dele em particular. Por exemplo, o detetive de seu romance anterior: a descrição que fez dele era muito autêntica. Esse agente se tornou uma pessoa muito familiar para seus leitores.” 

“I admit that he's fairly attractive, but it's his writing style that attracted my attention. He's a real inspiration for me. I like his characters in particular. For example, the detective from his previous novel: his description of him was very authentic. The readers became very familiar with that agent.”

“Honestamente, achei este livro bastante chato. Era muito complicado e, portanto, difícil de ler. Você pode fazer a entrevista. Aqui está o questionário que eu preparei para isso.” 

“Honestly, I found that book rather boring. It was too complicated and therefore hard to read. You're welcome to do the interview. Here's the questionnaire I've prepared for it.”

Laura quase explode em lágrimas de alegria. Graças a Ben, ela agora conhecerá seu ídolo.

Laura almost bursts into tears of joy. Thanks to Ben she is now going to meet her idol.

“Você está brincando, Ben. Meu sonho se realizaria. Eu sou uma fã tão devotada a ele. ”

“You’re joking, Ben. My dream would come true. I'm such a devoted fan of him.”

“Para mim é irritante ter que escrever sobre ele. Ao invés disso, quero me concentrar na expedição na vida selvagem que farei daqui a um mês.”

“For me, it's annoying that I have to write about him. I want to concentrate on the wildlife expedition I'm doing in a month’s time instead.”

“Obrigada, Ben. Minha entrevista será baseada em sua biografia. ”

“Thank you, Ben. My interview will be based on his biography.”

“Você deveria anotar alguns outros pontos. Ele está trabalhando em um livro sobre a guerra. É sobre soldados e oficiais comuns que lutaram bravamente e se viram em uma cadeira de rodas. O título é ‘Sombra da morte’. ”

“You should write down a couple of other points. He's working on a book about the war. It's about ordinary soldiers and officers who fought bravely and found themselves in a wheelchair. The title is ‘Shadow of Death’.”

“Aquele período foi um pesadelo! Meu avô também ficou ferido e, desde então, tem uma bala na perna. Uma geração inteira teve que reconstruir suas vidas. Meus avós parecem felizes hoje, mas meu avô estava deprimido quando voltou. Demorou um tempo para se recuperar. ”

“That period was a nightmare! My grandfather was injured too and has had a bullet in his leg ever since. An entire generation had to rebuild their lives. My grandparents seem happy today, but my grandpa was depressed when he returned. It took him quite a while to recover.”

“Sim, eles sofreram muito. Eles defenderam a sociedade e seus valores, mas tiveram sua juventude roubada ”.

“Yes, they have suffered a lot. They defended society and their values but they had their youth stolen.”

“É uma pena que haja silêncio sobre isso. O escritor tomou a decisão deliberada de não escrever uma de suas histórias em geral bastante superficiais e divertidas. ”

“It's a shame that there's so much silence about this. The writer made a deliberate decision to not write one of his stories which are, in general, quite shallow and entertaining.”

“Eu acho que esta foi uma exceção. Ele agora trabalha em uma história totalmente diferente novamente. Ele escreve sobre nossos ancestrais que se opuseram ao monumento em frente à residência real. ”

“I think this was a one-off. He's now working on a totally different story again. He's writing about our ancestors who were opposed to the monument in front of the royal residence.”

“Isso é realmente algo muito diferente. Você acha que ele vai confirmar que está trabalhando nisso? ”

“That is indeed something very different. Do you think he'll confirm that he's working on that?”

“Eu suponho que sim, mas será difícil lidar com os dois tópicos seriamente ao mesmo tempo.”

“I suppose he will, but it'll be difficult to deal with both topics seriously at the same time.”

“Eu poderia começar com perguntas sobre o romance de guerra, deixá-lo comentar sobre ele e só voltar ao assunto pouco antes do final da entrevista. Então ele pode decidir o que dizer. ”

“I could start with questions about the war novel, let him comment on it, and only turn to the other topic just before the end of the interview. Then he can decide what he says.”

“Eu acho que você poderia, mas idealmente você coloca ênfase no romance de guerra. Eu não acho que você possa relacionar os dois no artigo de qualquer maneira. ”

“I guess you could, but ideally you'll place the emphasis on the war novel. I don't think you can link the two in one article anyhow.”

“Isso é verdade e, além disso, posso muito bem aproveitar a oportunidade para lhe oferecer um segundo encontro no lançamento da campanha.”

“That's true, and furthermore I may well use the opportunity to offer him a second meeting at the launch of the book campaign.”

“Oh Laura! Só porque você quer encontrá-lo de novo! ”

“Oh Laura! Just because you want to meet him again!”
