D1 The Politician

本正在采访一位政治家，从而对该市东北部的一项新的开发项目进行说明。位于海港内湾附近的昔日军队营房会被一些现代住宅所取代。

Běn zhèngzài cǎifǎng yí wèi zhèngzhìjiā, cóng'ér duì gāi shì dōngběi bù de yí xiàng xīn de kāifā xiàngmù jìnxíng shuōmíng. Wèiyú hǎigǎng nèiwān fùjìn de xīrì jūnduì yíngfáng huì bèi yì xiē xiàndài zhùzhái suǒ qǔdài.

Ben is interviewing a politician in order to get some clarification about a new development on the northeast side of town. Former army barracks at the harbour basin are going to be replaced by modern housing.

Zhèlǐ jǔxíngle yígè shèjì dàsài. Gège jiànzhúshī yǐjīng wèi hǎigǎng fùjìn jí yánzhe yùnhé de dìqū de xīn shēngtài zhùzhái tíjiāole tāmen de shèjì 

There was a contest. Architects submitted their ideas for the new ecologically-built houses at the harbour and along the canal.

”早上好。我是本达斯特，我有一个关于新项目的疑问。” 本礼貌地说。  

” Zǎoshang hǎo. Wǒ shì Běn Dásītè, wǒ yǒu yígè guānyú xīn xiàngmù dì yíwèn.” Běn lǐmào de shuō.  

“Good morning. I'm Ben Dast and I have a query about the new project,” Ben says politely.

“早上好，达斯特先生。我要对昨天推迟我们的见面而道歉。我不得不参加一个关于休闲中心和商场的会议。我之前已经接受了他们的邀请……”  

“Zǎoshang hǎo, Dásītè xiānshēng. Wǒ yào duì zuótiān tuīchí wǒmen de jiànmiàn ér dàoqiàn. Wǒ bùdébù cānjiā yígè guānyú xiūxián zhōngxīn hé shāngchǎng de huìyì. Wǒ zhīqián yǐjīng jiēshòule tāmen de yāoqǐng……”  

“Good morning, Mr Dast. My apologies for postponing our meeting yesterday. I had to take part in a conference on leisure centres and malls. I'd already accepted the invitation before….”

“当然，我理解！我本来一直想问你这个会议的事，但海港项目被投票决定后，那里的房客们都很害怕，怕失去他们的社会性住房，成为无家可归的人。”   

“Dāngrán, wǒ lǐjiě! Wǒ běnlái yìzhí xiǎng wèn nǐ zhège huìyì de shì, dàn hǎigǎng xiàngmù bèi tóupiào juédìng hòu, nàlǐ de fángkèmen dōu hěn hàipà, pà shīqù tāmen de shèhuìxìng zhùfáng, chéngwéi wújiākěguī de rén.”   

“Of course, I understand! That was what I'd initially meant to speak to you about, but after the vote on the harbour project, the tenants are scared they'll lose their social housing and become homeless.

And the public is concerned about the destruction of the historical buildings along the waterfront walkway down by the port.”

“The buildings are run down and out of date. We've tried to save them with the help of several experts. At first, we did have hope, but then we discovered that the iron frames that connect the houses were also damaged.

“The tenants want to go to court because the proposed accommodation is not adequate.”

"I know - they're annoyed. There were many requests to stop the project, but the new housing units are really first rate. They'll have air conditioning and an enormous gym on the first floor. There's also going to be a parking underneath the building and the rent will be good value.”

“但是，你剥夺了那些住在那里的人的根。”本又一次说起来。   

“Dànshì, nǐ bōduóle nàxiē zhùzài nàlǐ de rén de gēn.” Bēn yòu yícì shuō qǐlái.   

“But you're depriving those who lived there of their roots,” Ben says once more.

“Shut up!“ The politician is unable to keep his cool any longer.

“Wǒ búbì wèi zìjǐ biànjiě. Wǒ yǐjīng jìnlì bǎoliú nàxiē fángwūle, dànshì wǒ zuò bú dào! Tóngshí, wǒ yǐjīng jìnlì qù zhǎo yígè yuànyì sīrén zīzhù de rén. Wǒ zhīdào nà duìyú fángkèmen shì yígè bēijù, dàn wǒmen bùnéng wèi cǐ ér tígāo shuìshōu a.

“I do not have to justify myself. I tried to preserve the houses, but I couldn't! I simultaneously tried to find someone who would finance this privately to avoid having to raise taxes.  I know this is a tragedy for the tenants, but we cannot raise taxes again
