D11 The debate

No parlamento, um debate sobre o abuso de poder está agendado para hoje. Os eleitores protestam em todo o país contra as leis atuais e pedem aos políticos que levem a sério sua obrigação de proteger as minorias. Políticos liberais e de esquerda da oposição pediram repetidamente para mudar a constituição.

In parliament, a debate on the abuse of power is scheduled for today. Voters have been protesting nationwide against the current laws and are asking politicians to take their obligation to protect minorities seriously. Liberal and left-wing politicians from the opposition have repeatedly asked to change the constitution.

Laura e Ben entram no parlamento pela entrada lateral. Eles deixam seus pertences no porão e sobem pelo saguão retangular de tirar o fôlego. É fácil para eles entrarem, pois estão equipados com passes de imprensa, enquanto o resto do público fica preso em longas filas do lado de fora.

Laura and Ben enter the parliament through the side entrance. They leave their belongings in the basement and make their way up through the breathtaking rectangular lobby. It is easy for them to enter since they are equipped with press passes while the rest of the public is trapped in long queues outside.

Novas medidas foram tomadas contra a interrupção dos debates, o que se tornou muito irritante para os ministros. Os infratores conhecidos receberam uma carta oficial informando-os por escrito sobre a introdução de novas regras dentro do parlamento.

New measures have been taken against the interruption of the debates which has become very irritating for ministers. Known offenders have received an official letter informing them in writing of the introduction of new rules within parliament.

No saguão, há panfletos de uma associação que visa educar os visitantes sobre a história e as tradições do país. Outro folheto destaca a ameaça das mudanças climáticas e do aquecimento global, identifica fragilidades na legislação atual e tenta influenciar as leis futuras.

In the foyer there are flyers from an association which aims to educate visitors on the country's history and traditions. Another leaflet highlights the threat of climate change and global warming, identifies weaknesses in the current legislation and tries to influence future laws.

“Bem, eles estão educando os visitantes sobre isso, mas não estou certo se isso pode alterar a situação se eles finalmente não começarem a multar as empresas por isso.

“Well, they're educating visitors about it but I'm unclear as to whether it can alter the situation if they don't finally start to fine companies for it.

O primeiro-ministro fez bastante pressão, mas o presidente bloqueou no último minuto porque temia a publicidade negativa e as consequências econômicas.”

"The prime minister made such a push for it, but the president blocked it at the last minute because he was afraid of the negative publicity and economic consequences.”

“Mas nós temos apenas este planeta e temos que resolver esse problema de poluição ilimitada.”

Ao entrarem no plenário, eles veem guardas armados que foram contratados no lugar dos empregados desarmados que anteriormente trabalhavam lá. O acesso ao plenário é parcialmente restrito.

As they enter the plenum, they see armed guards who have been hired in place of the unarmed employees who formerly worked there. Access to the plenum is partly restricted.

There is a lot of tension and hate in the population after some unpopular decisions which were made by the government.

As opiniões e propostas políticas do candidato são extremistas e, onde quer que ele apareça no palco no momento, o outro lado responde manifestando-se pacificamente. No parlamento, agora também é estritamente proibido perturbar debates.

The candidate's political views and proposals are extreme and, wherever he appears on stage at the moment, the other side responds by demonstrating peacefully. In parliament, it is also now strictly prohibited to disturb debates.

Não há espectadores dentro do prédio e o público mundial é informado apenas por apresentadores de TV.

There are no spectators within the building and the worldwide audience is only kept informed by TV presenters.
