Anna está procurando por um estágio. É um dos requisitos que ela precisa cumprir antes de se formar. Ela tenta avaliar objetivamente suas opções em relação às suas perspectivas de carreira no futuro.

Anna is looking for an internship. It is one of the requirements she needs to fulfil before she can graduate. She tries to objectively assess her options with regards to her future career outlook.

Empregos em marketing são atraentes para ela, mas muitas empresas se reorganizaram e demitiram pessoas. Portanto, muitos profissionais experientes estão desempregados. Ela descarta essa ideia e retoma sua busca.

Jobs in marketing are appealing to her, but a lot of firms have reorganised themselves and made people redundant. Therefore, many experienced professionals are out of work. She dismisses that idea and resumes her search.

Aparentemente, muitos graduados estão agora experimentando a manufatura após uma nova regulamentação que levou as empresas a fabricarem localmente novamente. Houve um aumento acentuado nas ofertas de emprego.

Apparently, many graduates are now having a go at manufacturing after a new regulation which has pushed firms to manufacture locally again. There has been a sharp increase in job offers.

Mas, no fundo, Anna sabe que precisa procurar em outro lugar. Ela é inexperiente e não conhece os conceitos e processos industriais.

But, deep down, Anna knows that she has to look elsewhere. She is inexperienced and does not know the industrial concepts and processes.

Ela vê a oferta de um cargo como representante de investimentos ecológicos que estão se tornando cada vez mais populares. Esta é uma área na qual ela está realmente interessada e ela anota com entusiasmo os detalhes da oferta e os detalhes de contato.

She sees an offer for a position as representative of environmentally friendly investments which are becoming more and more popular. This is an area she is strongly interested in and she enthusiastically notes down the specifics of the offer and the contact details.

Ela começa a escrever uma carta de apresentação na qual tenta expressar seu desejo de encontrar um emprego significativo. Ela explica o quanto se preocupa com as questões ambientais, como ela trabalha com paixão pela proteção dos recursos e que, portanto, é adequada para a função.

She starts to compose a cover letter in which she tries to convey her desire to find a meaningful job. She explains how much she cares about ecological issues, how passionately she works for the protection of resources, and that she is therefore well-suited for the role.

Ela não recebe uma resposta e pensa que a candidatura foi fracassada, mas, eventualmente, ela consegue uma entrevista.

She does not receive an answer and thinks the application has fallen through but, eventually, she is granted an interview.

Na manhã anterior à reunião, ela se sente péssima. Ela está com dor de estômago e aguarda a entrevista com impaciência.

The morning before the meeting she feels awful. She has an upset stomach and awaits the interview impatiently.

"You should also mention what you're doing for endangered species, like the project fighting against the decline of bird habitats. I have confidence in your skills, Anna. I know you want this job desperately and that it's currently difficult for you to cope with the stress.”

“There are pros and cons about this job. It's unpaid so it doesn't offer a decent standard of living.”

“Yeah, you can live with these terms thanks to Ben, but I'm convinced that it's unacceptable for many others.”

“Muitos dos meus amigos também querem se dedicar a esse tipo de papel idealista. Se você tem economias suficientes, não precisa enfrentar as realidades da vida e pode fazer algo em que acredita, mesmo que não receba um salário. ”

“Many of my friends also want to devote themselves to this kind of idealistic role. If you have enough savings you don’t have to face the realities of life and can do something you believe in even if you're not paid a salary.”

“But it does significantly reduce the number of applicants. The objective of the majority is to earn money and get a bonus.”

“How can we ensure that I get this internship? Look at the text I've written so far. Is it solid enough? I want to make the best possible impression.”

“Talvez aqui você possa enfatizar como você contribuiu para seu último projeto ao traduzir alguns documentos para a universidade?”

“Maybe here you can emphasise how you contributed to your last project when you translated some documents for the university?”

“That would be misleading. It was certainly not me, the lecturer did all the work.”
